Learn how to import profiles and materials into Ultimaker Cura

About Cura

Ultimaker Cura is one of the most popular free slicers, supporting hundreds of printers. It uses .curaprofile format for print profiles and .fdm_material format for FDM material definitions.

Import Print Profile (.curaprofile)

  1. 1. Download the .curaprofile file from SliceHub
  2. 2. In Cura, go to Preferences → Profiles → Import
  3. 3. Browse to the downloaded .curaprofile file and click "Open"
  4. 4. The profile will appear in your Custom Profiles list and can be selected from the profile dropdown

Quick tip: You can also double-click a .curaprofile file in your file explorer to automatically import it into Cura.

Import FDM Material (.fdm_material)

  1. 1. Download the .fdm_material file from SliceHub
  2. 2. In Cura, go to Preferences → Materials → Import
  3. 3. Select the .fdm_material file and click "Open"
  4. 4. The material will be added to your materials library and available in the material dropdown

Cura Tips

  • Profile compatibility: Ensure profiles are compatible with your Cura version. Profiles from much newer or older versions may not import correctly.
  • Printer selection: Select the correct printer before importing profiles. Some settings are printer-specific.
  • Custom profiles: Imported profiles appear in the "Custom" section, separate from Cura's built-in profiles
  • Material restart: You may need to restart Cura after importing materials for them to appear in dropdowns
  • Test prints: Always test new profiles with a small calibration object before printing large models
